Adult MVM Calculator Home Page

The adult multivitamin/mineral (MVM) calculator is a web-based research tool that predicts values for 18 nutrients in adult MVMs. The calculator provides nutrient estimates derived from analytical data for adult MVMs sold in the U.S., when a user enters labeled nutrient amounts. These estimates can be saved to build a small database for later use. This calculator should be used only for adult MVMs and was developed primarily for nutrition researchers' use. The calculator uses data from the DSID-1, the first release product of the Dietary Supplement Ingredient Database (DSID). The DSID, an initiative of the Office of Dietary Supplements, NIH, is being developed at the Nutrient Data Laboratory, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Two versions are featured. The "Basic" version provides a streamlined system for researchers to obtain predicted values for adult MVMs within a specific range of labeled levels for each nutrient, after entering labeled levels. The range for each nutrient is indicated on the data entry screen. The "Professional" version offers additional statistics for more comprehensive applications. Please read the FAQs before using the calculator, for further background information.

NOTE: The 'predicted amount per serving' for each nutrient is calculated using a regression equation for that nutrient. Predicted results represent average nutrient amounts of representative adult MVM products based on laboratory analysis. For additional information on the adult MVM study and the statistics supporting the calculator, use the web site's Research Summary and Data Files links on the left side of this page.
